24 February 2015
ReDI(Re-shaping Development Institute), based in Seoul, Korea, and RUPP (Royal University of Phnom Penh) announce today that they jointly launch the new research project for indigenous tourism sector development strategy in Northeast Cambodia.
The joint research project, funded by KOICA (Korea International Cooperation Agency), suggests an indigenous community-based eco-tourism strategy in Northeast Cambodia (Ratanakiri and Mondulkiri Provinces) to enhance self-identity, increase household income and alleviate poverty through development of eco-tourism products. In addition, it applies a concept of inclusive business and micro-entrepreneurship in tourism.
The project will also provide researchers of RUPP (Royal University of Phnom Penh) with series of training programmes (ICT; project management; tourism product development) to strengthen their development project planning capacity. Furthermore, they are expected not only to take a role as trainers to support the relevant stakeholders in building their capacities in tourism sector ,but also to become competent partners of Korean development programme.
The project will last for next 12months and holds the launch forum at the RUPP today, a gathering for key stakeholders of the project from Ministry of Tourism, ReDI, RUPP, and KOICA to discuss the Eco-tourism policy in Cambodia, Indigenous Tourism Mondulkiri and Ratanakiri, and the expected results of the project.
